I have written before that one of the simplest ways to get ready quickly in the morning and feel fabulous when you leave the house is to create a uniform.  By uniform I mean a go to look you know you feel good in that you can style different ways to wear for many different occasions.

A version of this look would be my go to outfit when I’m in a pinch or don’t really want to think too much about what to wear.  As a Momma, I don’t have a lot of time to get ready but still want to look cute while being comfortable.  My winter uniform entails… a shorter cotton/lycra skirt, an oversized top, blouse, or sweater, heavy tights, ankle boots, scarf, and a couple well appointed accessories.  This version of my go to look is perfect for lunches with friends, shopping with my Little Miss, or family brunch and weekend outings.

Stay tuned for two more looks of my uniform that I’ll be sharing over the next couple weeks.

New Years Eve used to be about me shopping for a new fabulous outfit, getting all dressed up, and breaking in a new pair of heels until the wee hours of the New Year.  Soooo, life has changed a little.  This year I’m shopping my own wardrobe, finding something cute but comfortable, and I’ll be sipping champagne with my loves until…well, until we get tired and decide it’s time to go to bed.  {You can always celebrate Eastern time.}

We have no idea what exactly we’ll be doing tonight, but we know it will be low key and as a family.  This look I styled with items from my wardrobe.  I  kept comfort the priority and then added touches of shine and glamour.  Tonight’s look might be an even more casual approach, but I’m ok with that; as long as there is bubbly.

Happy New Year!

I am a Christmas movie nut.  I get as many in this time of year as possible.  Even the terribly cheesey and predictable made for TV ones. {I actually cried watching one the other day. Such a loser…I know.}  Of course I also have my favourites like Love Actually.  Last night with Madelyn in bed and my husband at hockey, I made myself a cup of peppermint tea and soaked in this holiday movie must.  I remember back to my single days of watching this movie and how I would wish for big love in my future.

When I was single at Christmas I would make wishes for my future self.  I wished for things that now seem so simple, but then felt huge.  I wished for a house.  Somewhere I could plant flowers, paint the walls whatever colour I wanted, and feel proud to own.  I wished for a husband.  A wanted a man who I would adore and who would do anything for me.  I wished for a family.  A little girl all my own to love and sing to and rock in my arms.

Now here I am years later, and all of those Christmas wishes have come true.  Whenever I have a moment and I get that “I need more”  attitude, I like to remind myself of the amazing things that have come true for me.  These wishes, although as basic as they may seem, are really what life is all about.  Comfort and Love.

This time of year is always a bit strange fashion wise.  It’s WAY too hot to be layering on cozy sweaters, and somehow, it doesn’t look quite right to be running around in Summer dresses either.   Lately I’ve been gravitating towards anything lightweight and my favorite neutral colours.  {Thank you fashion for making the minimalist look a trend right now.}   It seems like the perfect way to transition into Fall.   I find the key is even though I’m wearing basics, I still keep it interesting with texture and a couple of accessories.  Jersey is my mommy-go-to fabric of choice.  These pants by Nicole Bridger have been a fave of mine from the early stage of my pregnancy {before the bump}, all throughout my pregnancy, and now again post pregnancy.  There’s something to be said about comfort and style.

Stay tuned for some fun new Fall Fashion posts coming soon!

I get a bit of a thrill when I shop my closet to create new combos I haven’t worn before.   I have had this printed open chiffon cardi in my closet since November.  I found it at Winners for only $10.  As much as I love it, I just hadn’t found a way to wear it that I liked.  So over the weekend, the challenge was on.  I opted to pair the top with a fitted black tank and printed skirt.  By cinching the top in with a wide waist belt, I created a bit of a peplum effect.

I’m not usually one for hosiery, but with on on again off again warm(ish) weather, sometimes I just got to cover up my legs.  These tights by DIM‘s Generous Collection are excellent for gals with sexy curves.  They don’t pinch or cut in and give you a nice smooth look.

Blouse: Winners,  Tank: C’est Moi,  Skirt: Forever 21,  Clutch: Christopher Kon,  Belt: Brave Leather,  Hosiery: c/o DIM Generous,  Shoes: Betsey Johnson
