I hope you all had a fabulous weekend like I did.  Happy Monday!

Me and my fellow Style Common chicks have put together a fun photo-shoot with date night inspiration in mind.

Whether it’s a date night with my husband or a night out with my girlfriends, I like to keep a feminine quality to my outfit without being too girly.  At least girly in a cutesy way.  I like to play up my curves and emphasize all my best bits.  For my date night look I chose this soft and flowy multi-coloured skirt and paired it with a tee instead of a blouse to keep my outfit more playful.  The black leather belt emphasizes my smaller waist and helps me show off an hourglass silhouette.  Since I already have a lot going on with pattern on pattern, I opted to keep my jewelry simple with a pair of sparkly studs and chunky chain necklace.  My bold sexy lip colour is a must for a perfect pout while my high heeled ankle boots give my gams some extra length.
My 5 Style Tips for Curvy Gals:
1) Don’t be afraid of colour. Curvy girls often retreat to slimming black. Colour can flatter your shape too, just make sure you have a good fit.
2) Emphasize your teeny bits. Whether it’s your waist, wrists, arms, or legs, show em off!
3) Add a belt to define your shape. Belts are amazing! I throw one on with most of my outfits. It not only defines my waist (one of my small bits), it also finishes my look.
4) Whether you’re wearing a pair of jeans or a cute dress, add some heels to your outfit. They will instantly make you feel sexy.
5) Be sure to wear a fuss free outfit. There is nothing worse than an outfit you’re constantly tugging and pulling at. Make sure it fits you well and you feel amazing in it. When you’re getting ready try walking around your house in the outfit as well as sit and bend in it. If you can’t move well in it, it’s not the outfit for you. Confidence is the best accessory you got, so work it!

I’m not one for New Years Resolutions but I am one to set goals, learn, and grow.  Rather than just focusing on one area of my life, I like to set goals in all aspects of my life…health, home, happiness, and of course style.  The New Year is a great time of year for me to clean out my closet, assess my wardrobe, and challenge myself to rework pieces in new ways.  Hmmm….upcoming post perhaps?

Here are a few of my (fun) goals for 2013…

1) Read my stack of books I’ve been meaning to get to.
2) Clean out our “throw everything in there” room in our house.
3) Finish our wedding album.
4) More date nights with my husband.
5) Give my blog a facelift.

Happy New Year to all my amazing readers!  I really appreciate all of your support over this last year.  I can’t wait  to share a very stylish 2013 with you.

Happy New Year!

We ladies of The Style Common paired up with Joe Fresh to show you not only how one top can be styled on many different body types but also how sequins can be worn any day…not just NYE.

It can sound horrible to compare your body shape to a piece of fruit, however pear shape is the best way to describe my figure.  Over the years I’ve learned to highlight the positives and camouflage the less desirable  areas of my body.  I’ve been blessed with a small waist, so belts are added to many of my looks.  This black leather belt is a pretty contrast against the rose gold sequins.   With a fuller hip, bum, and thigh I tend to wear darker colours on the bottom and often layer with a jacket or cardi to help balance out my proportions.   A killer pair of heels help elongate my shorter legs and gives the illusion of length.   I liked the low neckline on this top.  My collar bones are a feature I like to show off so I just added a simple layered necklace to help fill in the space and add some interest.  Sparkle with sparkle is completely appropriate for a date night out…especially on New Years Eve.  This sequin stunner clutch adds another element of glam without being over the top.

A quick style fix between pics.

I adore getting dressed during the holidays.  I’m either in cozy knits and loads of  layers or dressed to impress.   Fabrics like lace, tulle, and velvet paired with sequins and beading make any girl feel like they’re channeling their inner Holly Go-Lightly.  Our Deck Your Closet event was my first holiday soiree of the season. I was wearing a Mystree velvet dress from The Urban Rack, tulle cardi from Today boutique, Belt by Brave Leather, and necklace from Forever 21.  It wasn’t planned, but I love how well coordinated we ladies are in this picture.  Black, ivory, and gold are clearly our picks for the holiday season.  We had tons of things to see and do at our event.  Here’s a look at the goings on…
