Yesterday I got to spend some time with one of my besties.  We had a date day where we got to catch up on each others lives.  We started out with lunch at a spot that was new to me.  Being that we were so full we opted to head down to the beach and take a little stroll by the water.  It was not quite what we expected.  As beautiful and sunny as it was, the wind was nuts (as evident by my crazy wind blown hair).  We watched a few sail boats going out, snapped some pics, and when we couldn’t stand the goose bumps anymore, we opted to warm up in the car and then go get some gelato.  A sensible choice.

If I was to list some of my favorite things, cherry blossoms and Sunday brunch would definitely top the list.  Yesterday I got to enjoy both.  I had a fabulous brunch with three of my best gal pals at one of our fave spots in Kits, Trattoria.  We noshed on eggs benny, bruschetta, and the most amazing french toast.   After catching up and solving the worlds problems, I headed home to my hubby where we spent a bit of time outside enjoying the sunshine and cherry blossom filled streets in our neighborhood   All in all it was a lovely Sunday.

Last Thursday night I had the pleasure of modeling in The Urban Rack‘s charity fashion show raising funds for the Canadian Mental Health Association.  It was an amazing evening of shopping, fashion, yummy treats, goody bags, and fabulous people all while raising money for an amazing cause.  Here is a sneak peek at some of my looks from the evening.  The Urban Rack will have full event coverage coming to their facebook page soon.

I adore coral for Spring.  This outfit was easy, breezy, and casual.  I actually own this jacket. (Outfit details: Jacket & T-shirt by Maison Scotch, Skirt by Horny Toad.)

At first I felt a bit self conscious in this fitted look (which is kinda funny because I styled the looks).  But after my last minute “I’m too curvy for this outfit” panic, I just went for it and strutted my way down the runway:)  (Outfit details: Dress by Bardot, Jacket by Mystree, Belt by Brave Leather, Necklace by Karen Telio.)

I loved this dress so much, it came home with me.  (Outfit details: Dress by Mystree, Belt by Brave Leather, Necklace by Karen Telio, Scarf by V.Fraas.)

I haven’t really worn much blue in the past, but lately I seem drawn to it.  I like that you can wear multiple shades together and it just seems to work.  This navy tunic by Jackpot is another amazing piece from their sustainable clothing collection Pure Love.  It’s a bit sporty, super comfy, and has pockets so I’m in love.

I’d love to take credit for this clever way to wear a small square scarf, but admittedly the idea came from the talented designer herself.  Vancouver designer Mona Sultan launched her first collection of printed scarves in May 2012.  Her prints are amazing , her use of colour is even better.

What I love about personal style is, well, that it’s personal.  Our style is how we can express who we are or even what we’re feeling.  My style can change day to day based on so many factors…weather, my mood, what my day entails, etc.  I once overheard someone say “knits aren’t chic”.  She went on to say that they are unflattering on most people and that if you are truly stylish that tailored clothes are the only acceptable choice.  Now while I do agree that clothes should fit you properly, I also think that knits have become a staple in not only North American fashion, but around the world.

Maybe it’s the Prairie Girl in my but I happen to find knits very chic indeed.  We’re all entitled to our opinions but don’t ever let someone tell you what you should or shouldn’t wear.  When an outfit is put together the right way, looking chic is inevitable.   Thank you to the lovely people at Left of Houston for indulging my love of sweaters with this beautiful cardigan.  You know me so well already:)
