Summer Vibes

Summer has come early here on the West Coast.  We have been enjoying loads of sunshine and trying to spend as much time outdoors as possible.  Fall has always been my favourite season, but since I started working from home, two and half years ago, Summer had definitely worked its way up as a season to cherish.  I love how easy Summer is.  Throwing my hair up in a messy knot, putting on a simple dress and sandals, and wearing just a bit of makeup to complement my seasonal freckles.  I love how adorable Maddie’s little thighs look in her shorts and how every walk we go on is whole new adventure for her.
My summer vibe is pretty laid back.  You’ll be seeing me in simple pieces like a denim dress or black bermuda shorts.  Sandals, hats, and sunnies are an obvious must.  I really pair down my jewelry when the mercury goes up.  Fun and quirky studs are all I really need.  Currently on my wish list…a round beach towel.  I adore the look of them!  I can see Maddie and I curled up on one reading books under a tree in the backyard.  What are you feeling for summer? Done any shopping this season?

S T Y L E  I N S P I R A T I O N :   Normally Summer is all about bright colours and fun prints.  While I have infused a bit of this into my wardrobe, I can’t seem to shake gravitating towards pretty neutrals.  Little black dresses, a denim vest, flowy kimonos, and basic tees and tanks have been my staples.  Between the luxury of working from home and being on full time mommy duty, this has been the simplest way to make my closet work for me.  The time I have to get ready is much shorter so easy pieces I can mix n match help enormously.  We’ve also been experiencing one of the hottest Summers I can remember, which has also been affecting my outfit choices in the morning.  Light weight cottons and linens allow me to layer and keep me cool.

My self made Summer Vibe “rules”:
1. Top knots or a straw hat are a must.
2. For a flattering look, layer a super light kimono or vest over a simple dress.
3. Keep makeup minimal. Mascara, bronzer, and lip gloss is all you need.
4. Interesting jewelry will add the personality to your basic pieces.
5. Focus on your skin. Use a body scrub a couple of times a week to keep your skin glowing. Of course, don’t forget to moisturize and protect your skin with sunscreen.

Beach Party
These warm Summer days have me planning for days at the beach.  It is possible that some of these “days at the beach” will in fact be my backyard around a turtle kiddie pool with a fruity umbrella drink, but hey, that’s fun too.  For the days I find myself going to the actual beach, I imagine it to look a bit like this.
I’ve never been a shorts girl.  I love them, but we’ve never really got along.  Sooo, instead I gravitate toward easy, casual skirts.  Light weight tees and tanks {with bathing suit hiding underneath}, fun sunnies, a giant bag, flip flops, and a few fun accessories are all I need.  That’s the joy of Summer fashion, it’s meant to be easy.  Beauty Note: If I haven’t already mentioned it like a million times, dry shampoo is a must.  I love the Batiste Exotic Tropical for the Summer or warm weather vacays.  Throw it in your bag and freshen up your look wherever you go.  And Ladies, sunscreen please.  Now, get your cute but to the beach!

It seems so strange to be talking about the end of Summer.  We Vancouverites have had an amazing season.  Loads of sunshine and warm weather have been a real treat compared to summer’s past.  With kids going back to school next week and the stores full of beautiful Fall fashion, I’ve been trying to enjoy my last days with my Summer wardrobe.

As I’ve said in previous posts, this year, I’ve been having a harder time wrapping my brain around dressing for Fall as I am perpetually hot.  I seriously was sweating  just looking at Instagrams of girls in knit sweaters yesterday.  Twenty three degrees is too warm for full Fall gear.    However, after perusing the pages of my Fall issues, Ive been starting to plan out how I’m going to style myself to be season appropriate, but still stay cool.   After all, Fall is my favorite season.  When do you make the switch to your Fall wardrobe?

Usually this time of year I’m starting to gear up for Fall.  I adore Fall fashion.  Cozy knits, leather boots, and loads of layers.  This year with our current heat wave and my internal thermostat peaking  from my little peanut, Fall clothes have never been further from my mind.  I plan to stretch out my summer wardrobe as long as possible.  With approximately 40 days left in Summer, I’m gonna ride out my hot weather style.
