One of my reasons for loving Fall fashion is all the lovely layers.  I adore layering!  It’s flattering and adds visual interest to any outfit.  With hot summers, like we’ve been having, layering becomes a bit more tricky.  Over the years, I’ve found ways to incorporate layers into my warm weather wardrobe.  Chiffon print cardis like this one along with cotton vests have become my go-to.  They add that little something extra without the unnecessary added warmth.  Do you layer in the summer?  How do you make it work?

New Years plans always seem to be a bit last minute.  My husband and I had originally thought the two of us would go out for dinner and have a night out with just us.  However when an invitation from friends came up for a night in at their place, we happily made a change of plans.   We had a great NYE with a big dinner, yummy wine, games, and tons of laughs.  The best part is that we were only a few blocks from home so no cab crisis for us.

I ended up wearing a more casual dark green H&M dress with tights and a cozy sweater.  I was so comfy.  It was the perfect outfit for a big meal and a relaxed night in.  Since I didn’t wear the outfit I originally planned to wear, I thought I’d take some pics of it.

Dress: c/o EShakti (now on sale),  Cardi: Kersh,  Faux Fur Vest: Le Chateau,  Clutch: c/o Shoppalu,  Belt: Brave Leather (old), Bangle: old fave, Earrings: gift,  Shoes: Steve Madden (here)

I love pretty dresses but I’m always fearful of looking too girly.  This EShakti dress has a beautiful feminine silhouette but by adding elements like a leather belt, a faux fur vest, and chunky ankle boots I’m able to add just a bit of edge.

I hope you all had a lovely Christmas with your friends and family.  I know I sure did…and still am.  I am still relaxing and visiting my family in Victoria.  Yesterday’s weather was amazing and we took advantage of it.  I’ll have some Victoria pics coming for you soon.   These pics were taken a few days before Christmas in Vancouver on a very cold, wet, windy day.  I’m glad I had bundled myself with loads of layers!

It’s hard to believe that Christmas is already over.  Now I need to figure out my New Years plans which I’m sure won’t be determined until the last minute.  Who knows…maybe it will just be a quiet night in???  What are you all up to for NYE?

Come back tomorrow to check out more pics from The Style Common x Joe Fresh  holiday sequins shoot!

The holiday season is the perfect time of year to bring out your sparkly clutches.  Weather it’s a gold sequin stunner or a vintage inspired baguette, a bit of shine can make even the simplest dress the star of the party.   Today I was digging through my own collection to see what I’ve got to work with for my upcoming holiday soirees.   Here’s my mix…

If sparkle and shine are not really your thing, try something a little different.

Why not accessorize your accessories?  I took this brown leather vintage clutch ( c/o Shoppalu)  and attached a pretty little vintage broach to add some shine and whimsy.   Now I have a fabulous one-of-a-kind bag that will work with anything from jeans and stilettos to sequins and tulle.

Dressing in layers is my standard uniform.  What isn’t standard for me is vintage clothing.  I’ve always had a couple vintage pieces in my closet, mainly accessories, but not much clothing wise.  I figured this beautiful vintage pearl sweater c/o Shoppalu was a good place to start.  It’s so pretty and cozy and layers like a dream.  With this cooler weather, it was the perfect way to keep warm and stay chic.
