Night two of Vancouver Fashion Week was a show packed night with a whopping ten collections being shown.  First up of the night was Seattle’s Luiba Palan’s collection entitled Lia Pa.  Strong shoulders were the theme of this line.  Colors varied from light and bright hues like lime green, butter yellow, and baby blue to darker tones like army green and black.  Fabrics were an interesting mix of knits and chiffons with fur accents thrown in.

The second show of the night  was Saskatoon designer Melissa Squire.  (side note: Melissa and I share the same hometown of North Battleford, Saskatchewan…love that!)  Melissa called her collection “Badass Pretty Clothing”.  Her line was fun, quirky, and playful.  It was Betsey Johnson meets Avril Lavigne.  Think fuchsias, leopard prints, large polka dots, and crinoline for days.  It’s uber girly with a punk twist.

The next show of the night was by Vancouver based designer Queenie Luo and her collection Queenie.  Watching Queenie’s show was like watching a fairy tale unfold on the runway.    Royal blue, vibrant yellow, and fuchsia’s with tulle, feathers, sparkle and glitter made it what every little girl would want to play dress up in. (Except the top that was only a bow over the boobs…this one is for big girls.)  Peplim bodices and full tulle skirts were bright and fanciful.

Next up was Vancouver designer, and fellow Blanche Macdonald grad, Sarah Runnalls.  Her collection had a real  80′s inspired vibe to it.  Silhouettes range from calf-length sleek dresses and skirts to trousers paired with Fall coats.  Geometric color block dresses along with gold lame skirts, and bright pops of color like orange was what Sarah’s collection was all about.  My fave piece of hers was her camel colored cape with leather trim.  Love!

Vancouver designer Pourneh Askarian show a collection full of bold color. Royal blues, oranges, mustard yellows, fluorescent purple, rich wine tones all adorned her creations.   Models wore very turbanesque wide headbands, which I felt was a more wearable way to do this look.  Love!  Shift dresses and over sized cocoon like pieces made this a very interesting show to watch. View her collection HERE.

Seattle designer Tanya Min Jee Ellis showed a small all black collection.  Her inspiration is the chic modern day woman. View her collection HERE.

One of the most popular and highest attended shows of the night was menswear collection Mack Sam by designer Mackenzie Sam.  It was an interesting collection with muted tones, lightweight knits, extra long sleeves, and  harem pants.  The line had a very androgynous feel to it.  I felt I could just as easily wear the pieces. View his collection HERE.

Vancouver designer Elen Danielle showed a very romantic and vintage inspired collection.  Think ivory rosette peplums,  flapper fringe, and soft draping.  Her ivory long sleeved sequin mini dress was one of my favourite pieces.  I also loved to see ivory and winter whites for Fall.  Her show ended with a thunderous applause!

Our last designer of the night was Shelley Klassen who showed two collections.  First up was her debut of her new line entitled Story of a Girl.  The line was all about the 80′s!  The models strutted down the runway to toe tappin 80′s hits.  Blacks and greys were paired with turquoises and plums.  There were lots of Flashdance-off-the-shoulder looks along with Missoni inspired prints, colored hosiery, and short hemlines.  It’s what your kid sister will be wearing out on Saturday night, or what  your cougar aunt shouldn’t wear out. View her first collection HERE.

Shelley also showed her looks from Blushing Boutique.  A more lady like silhouette and over all feel to this collection.   Shelley showed Fall floral prints and hues like deep navy, red, and royal blue.  The only pieces I was left scratching my head a bit with were her leopard print velvet dresses.  They didn’t blend into the collection and nothing about them seemed to work.  Her flowy printed maxi dresses, however, were stunning.

Phew…that’s a lot of shows for one night.  Check back in tomorrow to see my overview of night three.
