Well it’s that time of year again.  I’m gearing up for my second go at Vancouver Fashion Week.  I attended for the November shows and am once again heading to the runway sidelines to see what VFW deems hot for Fall 2011.

It will be a busy week.  Not only am I working everyday, I’ve got an inventory count and some doctor’s and physio appointments thrown in there, before heading to the shows every night after work.  Like I said, busy week coming up.

What I learned from my last time covering VFW was that you need to be prepared and organized to endure (and enjoy) the week.  My must haves this week will include:

Many many cups of coffee will be consumed over the next week.  I’ll throw in some hot tea for good measure too!

I’m not sure that why through the course of a week I didn’t figure out that I didn’t have time to eat dinner until after 10 at night.  This season I’ll be popping some snacks like almonds and granola bars in my bag to nibble between shows.

I’ll be starting out in beautiful high heels…but these Yosi Samra flats will be tucked in my purse for when my feet (and back) have had enough.

Of course I’ll be madly jotting down notes as the shows come down the runway.  My fave little note pads are by Cartolina.  They are Canadian made and oh-so-pretty!  I pick mine up at Paboom on 4th Ave.  Love them!

Since I’ll be going straight from work to the fashion shows, my Too Faced Glamour To Go beauty palette will be coming in handy.  I’ll be able to freshen up my makeup without having to pack a whole make up case full of stuff.  This handy little palette has eye shadow, blush, and tinted lip gloss.

So with all of this, lots of water, as much sleep as I can muster, I should be able to survive another season of fashion week.  Be sure to check back to see my first hand reviews of the shows.  Things will be kicking off this Tuesday night with the Opening Gala.

Happy Fashion Week Everyone!

I  always find this time of year tricky when it comes to getting dressed.  It’s still Winter weather wise, but in fashion world, it’s Spring.  I’m ready to retire my heavy wool coats, lined boots, and chunky knits but the weather just won’t let me.  So,  in order to satisfy my warmer weather fashion cravings but keep warm, I layer and do some fun mixing and matching with my wardrobe.  I’m adding in more colour and layering floral tops and light weight dresses with tights, boots, and cardigans.

Lately my go to look has been my tunics.  Some are shirt length and I pair them with my skinny jeans and boots or ballet flats.

Tolani paisley tunic from Lynn Steven

Bird pendant from Paboom; crystal necklace from Nordstrom Rack

Inwear Tunic and Brave belt from The Urban Rack

Brave Leather belt

Others are more dress length which I can pair with my cardis and tights.  I add coloured scarves and stack on bangles to keep it fresh  and fun!  Belts are a must for my curvy figure.  I will throw a belt over almost anything.  LOVE my belt collection!

So ladies, don’t despair…the sun might not yet be shining, but I challenge you to have fun and play with your wardrobe.  If you don’t have the pieces to make your look work for you…go shopping!  I mean, what’s a girl to do???  Better yet, shop like Prairie Girl and shop local boutiques:-)

Now I like H&M and Forever 21 as much as the next gal, but if you want to find something a bit more special you have to look beyond the obvious shopping stand by’s. Here are my fave boutiques to shop in my great city of Vancouver.

For Shoes: Lord’s Shoes on South Granville Street is one of my favourite places to go for shoes. Lord’s carries all the brands you love like, Stuart Weitzman, L.A.M.B., Ted Baker, Frye Boots, and loads more. The last pair I bought from them was a sexy pair of Betsey Johnson booties.

For Wine: Kits Wine Cellar carries every grape you can think of from Wineries around the World. Their selection is incredible and if you can’t decide what to buy, they have a wine savvy staff to help you choose or even recommend something delicious. 2235 West 4th Ave.

For Gifts: Fine Finds in Yaletown is a gift mecca. It was formerly a furniture boutique but has transformed in to a fashion and gift hot spot. Weather you’re buying a new top, a baby gift, or a jewelry box, they have treats everywhere you look.

For Clothes and Jewelry: The Urban Rack Clothing Co is where every woman should shop. Notice I said woman and not girl. This is what I love so much about this boutique. They carry clothes for real women. Their size range is 0 – 14 and 25-34 in denim. They carry a great variety of fashion lines such as Mexx, Inwear, Language, AG Jeans, Mina UK, Michael Kors, Hanky Panky (my most favourite panties in the world) as well as local labels like Fidelity Jeans, Sweet Chemise, Kersh, and Karen Telio (local Jewelry designer).

I feel sexy and beautiful every time I wear it. They also carry a great selection of Hanky Panky products. (did I mention how much I love Hanky Panky?)

For Hats: If you are a hat girl like me than Edie Hats will be your happiest place on earth! I love Edie Hats. I have spent hours in this wall to wall, floor to ceiling covered in hats boutique. They have it al

For Home Decor: Paboom is a great store to find those special accent pieces for your house, apartment, or office. What you’ll find…candles, curtains, umbrella stands, kitchen gadgets, pillow covers, cake plates, crystal doorknobs, plus jewelry and handbags. This is also my go-to place for hostess gifts. 2209 West 4th Ave
