Motherhood.  One of the most challenging and rewarding things I have ever done in my life.  As a work from home Mom, I am constantly trying to find that perfect balance.  As I’m writing this, Madelyn is sitting on my feet flipping through her books.  I do feel very privileged to be able to work on things I’m passionate all while being a stay at home mom.  As a blogger I often feel like I’m in this weird no-mans land (or no-womans land).  I’m a style blogger who’s a mom and while writing about fashion has been my main gig, I can’t help but be influenced by my bright little light running around the house.  I hope to have more posts soon that travel into the Mom realm.  After all, being authentic is so important to me so flexing my mom muscles only makes sense.

Having said all that, enter Maddie in today’s style post!  Needless to say, my body has changed and morphed a lot from pregnancy.  As a result of that and a pretty major lifestyle change, my personal style has evolved too.  One item I’ve coveted in my wardrobe before, during, and after pregnancy are my Flatter Me Belts.  These amazing belts are stretchy, adjustable, and lay nice and flat.  When I was newly sporting the bump, this belt kept my pants up when my button could no longer be done up.  When I wanted to cinch in a dress but still be comfortable my FMB was perfect!  And now, while I’m loosing weight (ya, it takes a while for some of us), I rock this belt to keep up my pants until I can make it out to purchase a size down.   I have been wearing FMB for over 4 years now.  I first met the designer, Claire,  when I was an accessory buyer at The Urban Rack in Vancouver.  They are the most comfortable belts and have been a staple in my wardrobe ever since.  Mother’s Day came early for my Mom as she will be traveling next month.  You bet that one of her gifts was a belt in new hue Good Greycioius!   Flatter Me Belts currently has a promo on.  From now until May 3rd get 2 belts for $60 and your shipping is free!  Just use my shopping code PGMOMSDAY .

Lastly, how adorable are these matching Mommy & Me SaltWater Sandals?  I had to get us each a pair when I was in Barefoot Contessa last time in.  They carry the wee ones sandals at the Commercial Drive location only.  I love matching her…even though I use to swear I would never go there.  Oh how things change!

My Mom and I on my wedding day.

1) Buy her a special little accessory to wear.  Every time she puts it on she’ll think of you.

2) Instead of a traditional gift, donate money to a charity near and dear to her heart.

3) If you live far away from her, have her favorite flowers delivered to her.  If she doesn’t really have a favorite,  think beyond roses.  Peonies are a beautiful bouquet to send.

4) Make her something she’ll love.  This could be as simple as some homemade cookies or take time and create a photo album of the two of you over the years.

5) Give her the one thing she really wants…time with you.  If you’re lucky enough to live close by take some time to hang out with your Mom.  It doesn’t matter what you do as long as you’re together.

Happy Mothers Day weekend!

One day a year, we take time to really appreciate our Moms.  I know many of us find it tricky to find the perfect gift for the person who gave us life.   I mean seriously, how do you ever top that gift???  Even though I’m not yet a mother,   I believe it’s the little things we do for our Moms that mean the most to them.  Here a few ideas of little things you can give or do to show just how much the Leading Lady in your life rocks.

If you’re lucky enough to live in the same City as your Mom:

* Take her out for a meal.  Weather it’s brunch, lunch, or dinner she’ll be glad she’s not the one slaving in the kitchen.  Kick it up a notch by arriving with her favorite flowers!

* Mow her lawn, weed her garden, wash her car.  If we learned anything all those years together under the same roof its that they are happy when we’re doing chores.

*  Spend the day with her doing something she loves….shopping, going to the art gallery, going to a game.  Whatever her thing is, make it your thing too for the day!

If you have to send your shout out long distance:

*  Send her flowers.  What woman doesn’t want to get flowers sent to her?

* Mail her a card.  Weather funny or heart felt, find a card that sounds like you, and shows your personality that she loves so much.

* Surprise her with a visit.  My mom lives about 3 hours away.  A few years ago, I called my Dad to make sure they were going to be home for the weekend and then showed up on the front doorstep on Mother’s Day morning with flowers in hand.  I love that I can still surprise my mom!

Weather close or far, you can never go wrong with a hand picked prezzie.  Plus then I get to go shopping!  A gift card to her favourite spa is fab.  One of my fave spas in Vancouver is Beverly’s The Spa on 4th.  A great source of gift inspiration is Ticketmaster.  Check out what’s coming to town…the ballet, Cirque du Soliel, a musical, or concert.   Jewelry is a great way to go.  One of mine and my mom’s jewelry obsessions are our Pandora bracelets.  If you don’t know what these are, you must find out immediately and buy one!   Or  if you have a larger bank account statement than I do, an all expense paid trip for her to get away from it all.  (Oh, just in case you didn’t think of it…make sure that last one is for two.  A ticket for one might make her feel like you’re just sending her away!)

Don’t forget about your Grandmothers…they rock too!

Happy Mother’s Day Mom and Mama (my Grandmother)!  xoxo
