Beat the Heat

Happy Canada Day!!!!!!   It is H.O.T. here on the West Coast!  We are almost a month into an incredible heat wave.  Of course none of us want to complain about such amazing weather and endless days of sunshine, but we are having to adapt a bit.  How I’ve been keeping cool….
1) Cool showers are divine, but as soon as you towel yourself dry, you’re warm again.  I’ve been using this fab new body lotion by Jergens.  You actually apply it when your skin is still wet.  I’ve been loving it!  Perfect after a shower or even after a swim.  Available at London Drugs.
2) Paper fans are a great thing to keep in your purse so you can make a breeze wherever you go.  I stocked up on a couple when I was pregnant and still use them.
3) I received the Bobble water bottle at an event recently.  I’ve been trying to stay as hydrated as possible, so it’s been the perfect thing to pack around everywhere.   I love that this water bottle is light weight and has a built in filter.
4) Any time you can be either in or around water is a good thing.  Yesterday, I purchased a couple of beautiful Turkish towels from Home Sense (similar to the ones above).  I first thought I’d put them in the bathroom buy I might as well have pretty towels at the pool.  {Even if it’s Maddie’s kiddie pool.}
5) Every girl needs a great straw hat that matches anything and everything in their Summer wardrobe.
6) Pin that hair up!  When it gets this hot, you’ll be seeing my hair up in a top knot more days then not.  I’ve got a big stash of hair ties and bobby pins on hand.
7) I have flip flops laying all over the house right now.  They are all I want to wear.
8 )  This Avene Thermal Spring Water spritz is perfect after time in the sun.  Keep one in your beach bag for fresh soothing after sun relief.  I’ve been using it for years.
Keep cool and enjoy that sunshine!

So, yes…here I am doing an outfit post for the first time since having Maddie.  Kinda funny that just last week I was telling someone I was definitely done posting outfit pics {other than the odd snap on Insta}.   I guess never say never.  This outfit just seemed worthy of sharing with y’all.

Lately I’ve been crushing on kimono inspired pieces.  They are flowy and easy to wear, plus they can conceal bits of my body I’m still trying to get used to.  This one was a steal but still has luxe look to it.  I’m loving it paired with this casual boyfriend style chinos and also over dresses.  It’s a Summer trend that I actually find wearable.

For Fall {don’t kill me for saying the F word right at the beginning of Summer}, matte lips are what we will be seeing loads of.  It’s a bit of a throwback to the 90′s.  I still vividly remember lathering my lips with the darkest colour of crimson I could find and then caking on pressed powder to achieve the “perfect” matte lip.  Well thankfully we’ve moved past that and now have beautiful matte options.  One of my top picks is the Lise Watier Feline Velvet Lip Lacquer.  I like that it looks and feels smooth on the lips.  It will be available in London Drugs starting in August.

When it comes to chic events I’ve attended, London Drugs Events top the list.  This year we were treated like celebrities.  We were flown in to the event via helicopter where guests were greeted with signature cocktails, gift bags, and canapes.   This event was an opportunity for the fashion and beauty crowd in Vancouver to get a sneak peek of what’s to come in the beauty world this upcoming Fall/Winter season.  (You will be seeing products on the blog in upcoming posts.)  After an amazing evening products and mingling, a limo picked us all up and returned us to our vehicles.  A truly magical evening.

With the official arrival of Summer I have switched gears with my beauty routine.  I’ve been busy testing new products to find some new favorites for this season.  Beautiful glowy skin is must for me.  Lush Herbalism has been a perfect daily cleanser for me.  I love that it gently exfoliates too.  Pretty skin high lighters, a water resistant blush, along with a bold liner, and natural hued nails and gloss complete my beachy look.  We all know that sun protection is a must but don’t forget about your pout.  On sun soaked days be sure to layer on some sun protection under your gloss.  For Summer, I’m a sucker for some fabulous over-sized earrings.  Large hoops or a big metallic drop earring give instant glam to your go-to sundress.

Revlon Photoready Skinlights c/0 London Drugs,  Estee Lauder  (c/0) Heat Wave gold shadow,  Lise Watier Pink Plaid nail polish (c/o London Drugs),  Lush (c/o) Herbalism facial cleanser,  Cargo water resistant blush (c/o London Drugs),  Vichy (c/o) lip protection stick (SPF 30),  Cargo Texas Liner (c/0 London Drugs),  Aerin Shell Lip Gloss (c/o Estee Lauder),  Earrings: Forever 21 (an amazing bargain of $1.80)
