To keep a more casual outfit looking polished, pay attention to all the details.  Little touches can amp up your jersey’s and knits.  For this look I kept my colour palette quite neutral and then added a few richer looking accessories.  I went with a studded bag and sandals, long silver necklace, layered bracelet, and sparkly stud earrings.  Other details like a fresh hair cut ( and color) and polished toes and nails allow me to feel great in whatever I put on…even casual looks.

If I was to list some of my favorite things, cherry blossoms and Sunday brunch would definitely top the list.  Yesterday I got to enjoy both.  I had a fabulous brunch with three of my best gal pals at one of our fave spots in Kits, Trattoria.  We noshed on eggs benny, bruschetta, and the most amazing french toast.   After catching up and solving the worlds problems, I headed home to my hubby where we spent a bit of time outside enjoying the sunshine and cherry blossom filled streets in our neighborhood   All in all it was a lovely Sunday.

April showers bring May flowers.  I keep reminding myself of this when I wake up to an overcast sky and puddles on the ground.  I’ve packed all my boots away for the year but one pair I can’t give up would be my wellies.  An absolute West Coast must.  To make sure I don’t look like I’m going out to do some gardening or digging for clams, I try to keep my rainboots looking just a bit more refined.

My maxi skirts have been perfect to keep me warm but they often get soaked on the bottom.  To avoid looking soggy, I tie a knot at the bottom of the skirt to shorten the hemline just a bit.  This fabulously cozy sweater by Left of Houston is the perfect layering piece.  It doesn’t look heavy and bulky but it adds just enough warmth to keep the chill off.    How do you stay chic in the rain?

This is my final look from my FM Photographics photo-shoot.  It’s definitely my most simplistic look of three.  I really wanted the print contrast to stand out but not clash so I figured simpler was better.

This photo-shoot was exactly what I needed to kick off 2013.   When the winter blahs are kicking in and we all feel fat after gorging ourselves over the holidays, a day of dressing up, makeup, and pretty pics is just what the doctor ordered.   It ‘s the small things this time of year that keep our spirits up.

Five sure ways to brighten your day…
1) Go for a walk when the sun is shining. If you live somewhere like Vancouver, sunshine is a rarity this time of year. Get out there and enjoy it when you can.
2) Make plans with friends for dinner.
3) Buy fresh flowers for your home.
4) Put on some upbeat music. This always works for me:)
5) Plan your own photo session. Hire a professional or enlist a friend. It’s just fun to try something new!

Thank you so much to Jeff at FM Photographics for taking such great pics!

I found this pretty vase at a vintage market over the summer.  I love having fresh flowers on the window cill in my kitchen.

I have had this Karen Telio necklace for years now.  It is one of my favorite pieces of jewelry.

For storage, I keep pretty little tins like this one to store things like bobby pins.

I feel like I came back to life this week.  With meetings, articles, photoshoots, and deadlines, it was time to get out of my post holiday slump and join the productive world again.

I’ve been on a bit of a magazine buying kick lately.  I like to start getting spring inspirations early.
