I love this time of year.  Everything feels so much more full of joy.  The simplest things, like a walk, can be a fun adventure for Maddie and I, especially when Christmas lights are involved.   On Saturday we took Maddie to the Santa Clause parade.  These pics were not taken then.  Saturday was a miserable weather day.  It was grey and poured rain, but we bundled up, put on our rain boots and a fun day!  Our day involved Santa, hot cocoa, and a bit of shopping.  We made our own sunshine!

Speaking of sunshine, I’d like to spread a little to you.   One of you fabulous readers will win one of the 7 pairs of shoes I styled up over the past 7 days!

So you’ve spent hours trying to figure out what to wear to a friends holiday house party.  You finally piece it all together, accessorize, put on your fave shoes that obviously make the outfit, only to arrive and take them off immediately.  Sound familiar?  We’ve all been there.  There was a whole Sex and the City episode about it!  A favourite episode of mine actually.  Anywho….rather than find yourself in your cute outfit and old ugly socks, plan ahead.  Depending on the weather and where you live, you may be able to keep your shoes on.  If not, pack a pair with you.  I plan on keeping these fun purple flats on hand for such occasions.  They are flat with a rubber sole, so no fear of scuffing or scratching up anyone’s floors.  The key is to either clean the pair you plan to pack or have new ones that are already clean.   There’s no point in taking off a dirty pair to only put on another dirty pair.

Shopping tip…A lot of women shy away from buying a shoe like this for the winter months.  Keep in mind that while you may be limited to the indoors with them this time of year, they will transition perfectly into your Spring wardrobe when things warm up.

My closet is full of great mix n’ match basics.  I wear a lot of neutral colours and tend to be drawn to the classics.  To add some personality to these items, every once in a while, I pick up a piece that can add a pop of colour or print or both!  We had a selection of gorgeous capes by Jackson Rowe at our West + Wind Popup last week.  When I saw this beauty, it was love at first site.  Most of my holiday get togethers are on the more casual side.  I love the idea of being wrapped in something warm and cozy that still looks cute and stylish.

For you mommies out there, this is an awesome easy breezy, no fuss look.  If you don’t already own a pair, go out and find some ponte pant leggings.  They are thick so they cover you properly and if you buy a higher waisted pair, they help smooth out and hold in your tummy.  This pair I scored from a friend of mine when we did a clothing swap.  Clothing swaps are an awesome (and free) way to update your wardrobe.

Style tip…I used to always throw on a pair of heels to feel polished.  They still occasionally make an appearance, but man do I love my comfy flats.  These little leather shoe booties are awesome! I can run after Maddie in them, and really, that’s the new shoe must for me.  Haha!

December’s pace has slowed down a bit from November, but it still seems to be making me work my butt off.  On days when I’m at home doing mom stuff and working from home  (aka, not visible to the public), I’m in sweats.  I’ll put leggings on on days I’m feeling fancy.  These pants are a cross between the two but the faux leather detail down the side give them a slightly dressier feel.  A classic white button up shirt is another great piece to have on hand to elevate a casual look.  A hat and easy slip on runners make your outfit effortless.  A bright bold lip can take your running-errands-look to a chic, celebrity running errands look.  Haha!  At least I like to think so.

Style tip….Instead of a hoodie, go for a pretty knit sweater.  I’m always drawn to long sweaters, they have so much more style to them.

Cozy elegance.  Is that a thing?  If it is, that is how I would summarize this outfit.  With the season of parties and get togethers upon us, why sacrifice comfort for style when you can have both.  This look is a total texture mash up.  The tulle, lace, faux fur, and pearls are the pieces that elevate my ensemble, while the ankle boots,  long cardi, and ponytail give things a more laid back approach.

Style tip: Christmas party outfits don’t need to be traditional.  While I love a good LBD, sometimes I like to let my creativity guide my outfit styling.  Play around with the pieces in your closet.  A cute little ankle boot might be all you need.
