It has been an incredible vacation.  I am so sad that I am leaving Maui today.  I will miss waking up to beautiful sunshine and the sound of crashing waves.  Having a  cup of Kona coffee with fresh Hawaiian fruits in the morning followed by a walk on the beach…I will really miss that.  I guess since I don’t want to leave means we’ve had a great time.  It truly is paradise.

I packed almost perfectly for my trip which feels like a holiday victory.  I can be guilty of bringing way too much stuff and then only wearing the same few things over and over.  Not this time.  My husband and I shared a suitcase…for real!  With summer clothes rolling up so small we were not cramped for space.  As always, accessories were an easy way for me to change things up a bit.  A few skinny belts and some pretty jewelry was really all I needed.  I wore this beautiful set from InPink over and over.  I love that it matched my nail polish.

Aloha Maui!  I can’t wait to visit you again.

Hot weather vacation attire should be easy, comfortable, and simple.  I don’t want to spend time getting ready or fuss over what to wear.  I find I can’t really go wrong with a breezy skirt, pretty tank, and a pop of colour.  Yesterday I headed to Mama’s Fish House for an AMAZING lunch with my family.  We feasted on gourmet eats so needless to say I was grateful for the elastic waist on this skirt.   After lunch we went back to the beach at our condo for some time in the sun, a swim in the pool, and a stroll to check out the beachy boutiques across the way.  I’m already planning to retire here…just a few years away;)

To see this skirt in a whole new look, check out this month’s issue of Framework Magazine.  Yes, I bought the skirt after modeling it in the February issue.  Love it!

Well the time has come.  The sunless tanner has been applied, the mani/pedi has been done, and I’ve lost almost 10 pounds since I’ve started my New Year New Me challenge.  That’s right, I’m going on vaycay!

Tomorrow my fella and I will be heading to the tropical destination of Maui.  In the almost two years we’ve been together, this will be our first real vacation.  Sure we’ve had weekends away and short trips here and there, but not like this.  So of course with all this excitement and anticipation has come wardrobe planning.

Now, wardrobe planning I love…but packing, not so much.  I don’t like to have to pick closet favorites and limit my choices while I’m away.  How am I supposed to know now what I’m going to feel like wearing on Saturday?  It’s too much pressure to get it right!  So to avoid packing everything in my Summer wardrobe, I plan.

Round one, I went through and selected the things I love and wear the most in the Summer.  I tried to keep a balance of dresses, tops, skirts, tanks, etc.

Round two, I edited down my choices.  Since we’re only there for 5 full days with a travel day added on either end, I doubt I need 8 dresses to wear for dinner options.  Trying things on helps me edit it down too.   I’ve now narrowed it down and my bags are packed with: 3 dresses, 1 pair white jeans (new AG’s…love!),  2 pairs of shorts (1 cotton, 1 denim), 6 tank tops, 2 skirts, 2 blouses, 2 cardis, 1 pair wedges, 2 sandals, 1 pair of flip flops, 2 bathing suits, 1 cover up, 2 purses, and a hat.  Phew…I think that should do it.

Prairie Girl Travel Tips:

- Wear ballet flats with little sockets.  This way your shoes are easy to take off, but you won’t be left in bare feet in the yucky airport. (This happened to me at LAX…ewww.)

- Use ziplock bags and small makeup bags to compartmentalize your carry on.  This will help quicken the security process.   I break my goodies into electronics, meds, make-up & toiletries, jewelry, and then I always throw in a clean pair of undies and a fresh top just in case my bags don’t arrive right away.

- Comfy doesn’t have to be sloppy.  Layer in light clothing and always pack a pashmina to wrap up in to stay warm and cozy on the plane.

I will be back with new articles and tales from the tropics when I get back from my holiday.  Happy Travels.

Aloha!
