Heart-Warmers is the beautiful creation of local Vancouver designer, Alison Scott. This winter accessories line is easy on the environment as they are made with locally sourced components and everything is constructed within a 100 mile radius. When I first met Alison, I adored how she supports local businesses and is so passionate about producing a product where you can feel the love that goes into them. She uses beautiful luxe fabrics that give you a chic look but you are oh-so-cozy while wearing. I am happy to offer my readers an opportunity to add some heart warming items to their closets. This very pretty silver scarf wrap and knit arm warmers are up for grabs.
A chat with Alison, the creator and designer behind Heart-Warmers.
What inspired you to start your line? The opportunity to grow a new genre of fashion, Conscious Design. I really feel Vancouver is the ideal place for this new sort of fashion mecca. I am passionate about bringing something deeper to the superficiality of the fashion industry
Where does the name Heart-Warmers come from? I named the line of winter accessories Heart-Warmers because I want to make it evident that purchasing a Heart-Warmer does have an impact. The decision to chose a locally, and ethically made piece like a Heart-Warmer is a decision to invest in the local economy, to support the initiatives of our local non-profit organizations and to grow the conscious fashion industry in Vancouver.
What is something special or unique you would like people to know about your company? 10% of our profit goes to women focused non-profit organizations, including those that work with survivors of human trafficking here in our city.
Where are your favorite places to shop in Vancouver? On days without a fashion fair or craft market I choose The Window Community Arts Shop (9 E Hastings) for gifts and Dream (Granville Island and Gastown) for accessories/clothing by local artisans. I see the places I chose to shop as my opportunity to use my money as my voice. I choose local and handmade as well as up-cycled and used so my money goes to local initiatives NOT corporate giants.
What do you have on your Christmas wish list this year? An iphone case with a hole for the camera so i can connect with ease! I spend my spare moments on Etsy looking for one- the hunt continues!
