This look is definitely a departure from my usual denim look I rock on most days.  I forgot how nice it is to slip on a dress.  I used to wear dresses almost everyday when I was working outside of the home.  I loved that I always felt comfortable but polished.  A dress is one thing to put on.  It is a quick and easy way to get dressed.  There is definitely still a chill in the air and layers are required.  On the days that have been a bit warmer, I have been swapping out my cardis for kimonos.  I got this beautiful one a couple years ago from Farminista.com.  I obviously love that they are based out of my home province of Saskatchewan.  This silk dress was an amazing find at the Nicole Bridger warehouse sale last month.  Even though this shade of green is typically a more Fall colour, the floral kimono freshens it up with a Spring vibe.  I really do need to dress up more.  With that said, I’m going to go through on a pair of jeans now.

I would have to say it’s been a very long time since I’ve worn Keds.  I’m guessing at some point in the early 90′s with a pair of red high waisted jeans (with zippers on the ankles), and a gimham crop top.  Huh…that kinda sounds like whats happening right now in fashion.  Anyway!   Keds have been killing it lately with some adorable collaborations like this one with Kate Spade.  This pair definitely needed to be styled with a bright and happy outfit.  This look is perfect for a Spring weekend.

On a side note, I’ve been doing more Spring closet cleaning in an attempt to simplify my wardrobe.  I have been adding a few carefully selected items to keep things fresh and to replace some items that just don’t fit they way they did before baby…so they have to go.  I like the idea of having less and wearing those items more.  This sweater and vest obviously made the keep pile.  Every woman needs a denim vest.  It’s a perfect layering piece for the warmer days ahead.

Spring is almost here!  While I do love to add some colour to my wardrobe when the blossoms start blooming, I’m also just fine sticking with my go-to neutrals.  Black is always in season.  To breath new life into this classic hue, I’ve added a pop of print with these amazingly comfortable pants from Old Navy.   Accessorizing with gold and a large off white tote also brightens up the look.  When making the transition from Winter to Spring, think of mixing and matching your seasons.  Lightweight pants with a felt hat or a silky tunic with ankle boots are great ways to transition.

This fab jewelry is by Foxy Originals.  Foxy is designed and made in Toronto.  That’s right, Canadian made! Local production means they not only support the local job market, they are eliminating transportation and minimizing their carbon footprint.  They have a ton of fun, on trend pieces and are affordable.  The perfect way to do a little accessory update.

Sidenote…how much are we all loving cherry blossom season?  I can’t get enough!

It took a while but Vancouver has now finally received Fall.  We had quite the extended hot weather this year, which was amazing, but I am LOVING the change of season.  Our furnace got switch on yesterday, I’m going through my piles of scarves to see what treasures I’ve forgotten about, and cardigans are being layered on.

I’ve been on a real basics kick lately, so this super cozy floral print cardi was a real departure from my everyday look.  It was kind of fun to play with some print and colour.  It has most of my fave hues, so it has been an easy piece to mix n’ match with existing items in my closet.  I’m sure this Farminista knit will become a fast favorite!

Lately I feel like I have been on this journey of finding better ways to not only take care of my self but love myself more.  As a woman and a mother it is easy to put yourself last on the list of priorities.  There is always work to be done, chores to complete, laundry piling up, and most importantly my family to care for.

This last week I treated myself to two opportunities to reflect inward.  I attended the Leading Moms seminar as well as went to see the AMAZING Taryn Brumfitt and her Body Image Movement.  Both of these events celebrated women and their diversity.  It was nice to hear that I’m not the only one who feels overwhelmed some days.  I’m not alone in feeling less then when I compare {dirtiest word in the English language} myself to other women and other moms.  It was completely uplifting to realize there is whole network of beautiful and amazing women out there to support and encourage you.

This was my “I am an amazing women” outfit I wore to the Body Image Movement night.  Clothing can be ornamental for sure, but it can also make you feel beautiful and powerful.  It’s easy to tear yourself apart when getting ready to go somewhere.  ”I look fat in this.”  ”I look so old and tired.”  And so on.    I’m now trying to pay myself a complement before leaving the house.  After all, it only matters what I think of me.

This LBD has become a fast favorite in my wardrobe.  It’s flattering, it’s comfortable, and when I came out of the changeroom in it I said ” I think I’m pretty cute in this dress.”  Did I also mention it was on sale and made locally here in Vancouver??  I know!  The perfect LBD.  My obsession with kimonos continues with this new beauty recently added to my wardrobe from a fabulous prairie site from my home province of Saskatchewan.  Be sure to check out Farminista…you will love!
