This past weekend, we took a day away from house renos and baby prepping to just hang out as a family.  Saturday was our five year wedding anniversary, so it seemed like the perfect day for a family day.   I teamed up with AIR MILES to take advantage of the awesome Perks the AIR MILES Reward Program offers all its Collectors and headed to the Vancouver Aquarium.  It was only Madelyn’s second time to the Aquarium, so it was definitely a magical experience for her.  She of course loved the dolphin show, the penguins, and the sea otters.  Watching her excitement is so infectious.  Being the brave girl she is, she was right in on touching a Stingray or two in the very cool Stingray exhibit.  The Aquarium is such a great place for kids to learn and play and get in touch with the amazing creatures on our beautiful West Coast. The best part was that I received 10% off admission, thanks to AIR MILES Perks!  Plus I didn’t have to use the Miles in my Account for this. The discount is available to you just for having an AIR MILES Card.

Being that I am sooooo pregnant right now with our twins, sitting was a big deal for me.  One of my favourite places to sit is down below watching the Beluga Whales swimming.  It is so peaceful and soothing somehow.  Even our active (almost 3 year old) Maddie loved just sitting and watching them.  They are such magnificent animals to see up close.   I noted that they actually have a cozy little corner set up down there for moms to feed their babies.  I can see me and the twins hanging out down there next year.

Are you an AIRMILES Collector?  Visit airmiles.ca to see what Perks are available to you. Not an AIR MILES Collector? You can join today. AIR MILES is a free loyalty program that allows you to get Miles on your everyday shopping that you can use towards Rewards like flights, merchandise, or tickets to the hottest shows and events, to name a few.

When it comes to a Summer time getaway, nothing beats a good old family road trip.  We were fortunate enough to have a beauty of a car, courtesy of Ford, for our week away.  For this little getaway we took our 2016 Ford Edge to Penticton, BC.  Being surrounded by lush vineyards and a gorgeous lake, had us feeling like we were far from home even though it was only about a 4 hour drive.  So perfect for when you are traveling with little ones.

Most days were spent on a little adventure like floating down the cannal or hitting up the farmers market. We spent our evenings going for ice cream, having BBQ’s, and taking in outdoor concerts.  No day was complete without a walk along the beach.  It was the perfect  little escape from day to day life.

We rented the cutest little house through AirBnB.  It was great to have a big yard and a huge garden that we were able to pick fresh veggies from for dinner.  We were only a 5 minute drive to the beach and main town area.  Our Ford was perfect for keeping our phones charged, rocking out to satellite radio, and getting us around in comfort.  Maddie called it our special car.  The best was power outlets in the trunk of the car.  We plugged in our air pump so we could blow up our giant floating “Party Island” to float down the cannal in.  That was Maddie’s favourite adventure.  It took us almost two hours to float on down and when we finished she said, ” I want to do it again!”  She fell asleep shortly after that.

It’s been a while since I’ve shared a video with you.  This trip seemed like the perfect opportunity to record some memories.  I hope you enjoy!

Snow is such a novelty in this part of the country.  The West Coast doesn’t usually see much snow, so taking Maddie up to Whistler to play in mounds of the fluffy, white stuff was really quite magical.  All she wanted to do was walk in the snow, and walk we did.  We also took her on her first gondola ride and went sledding for the first time.  Obviously, this was a big hit.  I only wish we had had even more time to play.

This new Winter coat from Point Zero came just before Christmas.  While I have only had the chance to wear it a couple of times at home, I wore it non-stop in Whistler.  So cozy and warm and obviously, a chic Winter topper is a must at a ski resort.

This overpriced piece of plastic we bought up in Whistler ended up being worth every penny.  ”More!” was all we could here Madelyn say.  She wouldn’t even be at the bottom of the hill yet and was ready for the next run.

People watching in Whistler is fantastic!  There are so many individuals from all over the world roaming the cobblestone streets.  The Winter outfits never disappoint.  To make sure I added to the colourfulness of this ski town, I opted for these fun printed leggings from Du North Designs. They seriously feel like butter, and work on my curves.  {Yes, I wore a little knit sweater dress over them to make sure my butt was covered.  It’s the only way leggings should be worn…with the tush concealed.}

This big grin sums up our weekend perfectly.  All smiles.

We spent a little apres time at one of our fave hotels in Whistler, Nita Lake Lodge.  It’s so peaceful and beautiful there.

Family getaways are so very important.  Any time you can leave work and daily responsibilities behind to create new family memories, is worth making time for.  We had such a great time.  It’s hard getting back into the swing of things today as I sit here with deadlines, emails, work, and mounds of laundry, but I wouldn’t trade it for the world.

I have always been a Fall lover….BUT, we are not there yet.  As excited as I am for cool evenings wrapped in sweaters and blanket scarves, I am really embracing every moment of Summer.  We are all always in a rush to move onto the next rather just enjoying whatever is happening now.   I don’t want pumpkin spice lattes when I can still be sipping lemonade.  If the sun is shining {and it’s been shining A LOT} I say, get out there and play!   Fall will be here soon enough, so let’s embrace the now and relish in the moment.

Maddie and I have been loving playing in our new Native Shoes!  We can run in the dirt, splash in the puddles of the water park, and not worry about our shoes.  Weather your a Mini Lady or all the way grown, a girl wants cute shoes, even when they’re comfortable.  These will definitely be getting packed for our family trip to Palm Springs in October.  Thank you Native Shoes!!!

We have always loved going out for dinner.  It’s such a treat to have someone else cook yummy food for you and clean up after.  Maddie has now hit her I-Don’t-Want-to-be-in-One-Place-for-too-long phase.  We do go out to dine occasionally, but we don’t really take our time with it like we’d like to.  Most of our time is spent entertaining her so she doesn’t freak out.  Last week we felt like a night off from cooking + wanted to spend time outside enjoying this incredible weather!  So, off to the local Farmer’s Market we went.

We were able to stock up on some things like eggs and I bought some fresh baked goods for a creative meeting I had the next morning.  (I think way better with a fresh berry scone in my belly.)   The market always has some fantastic food trucks, so we grabbed some gourmet grilled cheese, some pink lemonade, and some locally brewed beer, threw our blanket down and picnic’d in the park.  Maddie of course loved that she could sit and eat but then get up and run around if she felt like it.  We were able to relax and not worry about bugging anyone around us because everyone at the park was doing the same thing.  This will definitely be a night out we will be doing several times again throughout the summer and into the fall.  Hope you enjoy our little video!
