Accessory Style

With my wardrobe being quite limited these days, I’ve been playing with my accessories to create different looks with just a few basic pieces.  This inspiration board shows just four ways to group accessories together to create a specific look.  Pretty much all my looks are on the casual side these days.  Fall is my favourite season for casual looks.  A simple jeans and tee outfit can be amped up with the right scarf, hat, and boots.  Casual weekends need only a cute coffee tumbler and cap to cover your messy locks.  My favourite accessory that is popping up this season are the adorable pom pom keychains.  I don’t have one (yet), but I am obsessed!  So if you feel like you have nothing to wear, look no further than your lovely collection of accessories.

Some days a shower and real clothes are far beyond my reach.  Moms, you know what I’m talking about.  For me, yesterday was one of those days.  We’re back from an awesome family holiday {I’ll share more on our vacay in an upcoming post.} and all of a sudden I’m launched back into real life.  Loads of work, piles of laundry, and a toddler with a schedule all out of whack.  And by this, I of course mean we had a one hour melt down of screaming and crying while we tried to go down for a nap.  Eventually, I conceded, brought her down to the living room where she passed out on the floor 20 minutes into Ratatouille.  During her nap, I had a meeting with Alicia and managed to get a bunch of client work done.
*** Can we just pause and talk about how incredible sweet Alicia is. I was in full stressful mommy mode and she let herself in (naturally with the keys I accidentally left in our front door), put on a pot of coffee, did my dishes I had in the sink, and had a smile on her face when I came downstairs. This definitely prevented me from loosing it. It’s those little things that mean so much. ***

Some days, however, I manage to have a quick shower and put on some real grown up clothes.  Lately, I’ve been opting for comfort and function.  These Banana Republic pants have been on repeat.  They are ridiculously comfortable!  This easy, albeit wrinkly, blouse from Old Navy in this gorgeous maroon colour is an easy piece for me to feel a bit more dressed up in.  I tend to do the cardi thing more than blazers.  Again, more comfortable and usually easier to wash.  To complete my look?  A top knot of course!

So Mommas, hang in there and find yourself  a couple of easy to wear uniforms for days when we can do more than yoga pants.

Weekend Uniform Checklist

1. Jeans: I just bought a great pair of comfortable skinny faded black jeans, similar to these J Brand ones.  I found mine at Winners for only $30!

2. Aviators: My mirrored Ray Ban sunnies my sister gave me are a year round favourite.  They make me feel like the cool mom at the playground;)

3. T-shirts…everyone needs like a million. This one is from Uniqlo.  A cool shop one of my besties told me to shop at when I went to San Fransisco in June.  I stocked up!

4. Cozy Socks: These Stance socks are uber cozy.  I recently got to preview the new collection at the Dela Cruz PR Holiday Preview.  I scored a cute new striped pair!

5. Hats are a great go to for those days when washing your hair seems like an enormous task.  I have a grey TopShop cap just like this Club Monaco one.  Fave go to for a few years now.

6. Weekender Bag: How cool are these duffel bags by FJALLRAVEN?  This was another cool line I got to check out at the holiday preview event. Great colour!!!

7.  Large bag: I have a little collection of Co-Lab by Christopher Kon bags.  They are cheap and cheerful and perfect to throw your whole life in before you head out the door.

8. Water bottle: When my husband and I were up in Whistler, we picked up a Swell water bottle.  This thing is awesome!  It keeps liquids hot for up to 12 hours and cold for 24 hours.  Awesome gift for Momma’s.  You can keep water at the temp you need if you use powder formula; but also good for coffee, water, tea, or anything else you want to take on the go.

9. Utility jacket: LOVE the Maison Scotch label.  This jacket is similar to my old Inwear standby that I have had for a gagillion years.  It might be time for an upgrade this year.

10.  Scarf season is just around the corner.  I try to limit myself with how many I buy each season, but I may have already picked up a new Artitzia blanket scarf.  Forever 21 has some awesome cheep and cheerful options though.

11. Watch: Another cute Forever 21 find…might have to pick this one up so I’m not wearing my Michael Kors one during outside play sessions with the Little Miss.

12.  Casual boots: These boots soooooo remind me of high school!   I love that the classic Dr. Marten boot, I rocked in the 90′s, is completely current all over again.  I’m on the hunt for a new comfortable, flat ankle boot.  These might do the trick!

September Mood Board

Happy September first everyone!!!!  Even though we still have a few weeks of Summer left, September is typically a bit of a transition month fashion wise.  My mood to kick off the month (and drastic change in weather) is feeling easy basics like cute tees and pencil skirts.  There is no need to cover up completely yet, so I plan on keeping my legs bare as long as possible.  Ankle boots are a perfect shoe to transition into cooler weather and a large tote works weather you’re heading to a meeting or a play date.
I don’t know what it is about September that makes me want to buy fresh office supplies {cute ones, of course} and sip on tea.
Today my feet were chilly for the first time, so my moccasins were an obvious choice for working in my home office and playing with the
Little Miss.  I also realize that I need to come up with some ideas for indoor activities with a toddler.  We’ve been so used to being
outside everyday that I need to get creative to make fun in a whole new way.  Any suggestions Momma’s?
Fresh flowers are a good idea any time of year, but especially when the skies get grey.  A simple bouquet can brighten up a room, especially if it’s your
office space.  I’ve also been adding plants here and there around the house.  Admittedly, I am no green thumb, so I keep my plant picks
cheap and cheerful as they usually only last me a few months.
I still don’t want to rush the end of Summer.  Vancouver is supposed to have a warm and sunny long weekend coming up.  In fact,
they are predicting a sunny first half of the month, except these first few days.  I’m ready to embrace it fully and in the meantime, start
my strategic fall shopping plan.
