For some reason the beginning of September seems to {unofficially} mark the end of Summer.  We still have a few weeks left, but there is this shift that seems to happen after Labour Day.  It gets darker earlier, there’s a coolness to the air, and I start thinking about my wardrobe for the upcoming season.

The word you will hear over and over again this next month is transition.  I start thinking/purchasing transition items at the beginning of August.   When shopping I ask myself, “Can I wear this now?” and “How will I wear it for Fall?”   I picked up this little BCBG dress at their outlet right near where I live.  It’s been perfect for now with sandals and boho accessories.  You will definitely see me reworking this dress in to the Fall season.  How?  You’ll have to check back.

When it comes to layering in the Fall I like to mix texture and of course add fun accessories for some personality.  To add colour to my usual neutral colour palette, I love rich wine tones.  They are great shades that still manage to feel somewhat neutral.  My formula…I start with my fave pair of dark wash slim fit jeans a black tee or tank.  Then I add….

1. a large wine coloured clutch. I love that this one also comes with a cross body strap so I can be hands free.  (Co-Lab Clutch)
2. a black fedora. This is one of my go-to hat options for fall. It’s an easy way to kick your style up a notch plus hide a less than amazing hair day.  (Scoop Pop-Up Shop)
3. comfortable shoes. Yes, these are heels, but Ecco has some amazingly comfy options for the gal who likes to elongate her gams.  (c/o Ecco shoes)
4. a piece of statement jewelry. Statement pieces don’t have to be reserved for the neck only. Try a bold cuff, especially if you’re a scarf junkie like me.  (Scoop Pop-Up Shop)
5. a very cozy sweater. Knits are one of the best things about fall. They are cozy, warm, and functional. A chunky cardi like this is a great casual alternative to a blazer. Weekend latte in the park anyone?  (Free People cardi)

With the arrival of September and showers I’ve been forced to start planning my wardrobe strategy for the remainder of my pregnancy.  I’m in the home stretch (less than 2 and a half months to go), but constant hot flashes and my switch over to maternity underwear (overshare?), are making me want to stick to barely there summer fabrics.  To make the transition, I’m opting for light weight pieces, bare legs, and richer/darker hues.  I have had this little black skirt by Metalicus for years.  It’s always been a go-to item for me, but I think I will be grabbing it even more often this Fall.  (So grateful I also own it in grey.)   All hail the stretchy tube skirt.  How are you making the transition from Summer to Fall?

It’s taken me a while to find the perfect pair of printed pants…especially now with my new physique.  I have found most to be cut very slim through the hip giving me a not so flattering silhouette.  This pair I found at Asos.com in there maternity section.  They are so unbelievably comfortable.  So comfy in fact, I wore them on my roadtrip last Thursday.

Needless to say, our roadtrip was a bust.  With the devastating floods in Calgary and surrounding area, there was no way to make it to our final destination.  My heart goes out to all of those affected by the Alberta floods.  xo

With a new body to now style (and changing all the time), I’ve really had to edit my closet and shop wisely.  I’ve reorganized my closet so all my maternity, or maternity equivalents, are all together in one section which has made getting dressed a whole lot easier.  I still venture over to the other parts of my closet for some tops, jackets, and cardis….while I can.

I am very excited to have an upcoming Mavi feature on my blog.  I adore Mavi jeans and have a couple new pairs that I have been living in recently.  Stay tuned for more info.
