I’m always amazed with how we women can go from being so confident one moment to it all flying out the window the next.  I’ve been heading to the gym quite regularly these days.  We made the switch from a meat-head gym to our local community centre as it has everything we could need as a family.  The gym, a pool, lots of classes, and child minding.  Normally I can just get into my zone and giver with one of my cardio/weights routines.  Last night, however, I struggled to get into my zone.

My warm up cardio was fine, but then I headed for the free weights.  It was a very dude heavy crowd last night.  I was the only woman doing free weights and there were only two other women there and they were both on the bikes.  I guess with it being Spring break all my fellow moms with a bit of squish on their bods are on vacay, and not at the gym.  I kept trying to find a small space to carve out for myself to exercise in.  Every time I turned around there was some twenty something guy sprawled out and grunting doing his fiftieth rep of something to make his arms bigger.  Fade to the 35 year old mom doing lunges with her eight pound free weights and you can see how I was feeling a bit out of my element.

After spending about 20 minutes walking from space to space and getting in a few reps here and there, I got fed up and went back to the cardio machines which were virtually empty.  I wanted to be annoyed by all the guys who were making me feel insecure, but I realized that I was the only one who did that.  I got in my head and couldn’t shake it.  Then on the drive home, Miss Swift gave me some great advice…”Shake it off!”  I think we’re only human to have days where we just aren’t feeling our most amazing self, but then you shake it off and tomorrow comes with a fresh outlook.    One of my confidence boosters?  An outfit I feel I could conquer the world in!
