With us being in the day and age of Photoshop and retouched images, its hard for any of us to really relate to what is being shown as beautiful. (Read this great post by Niki of A Haute Mess). It’s no secret, and I’ve mentioned it before, that I am not a size 2, 20 something blogger with legs for days. I’m a chick in my 30′s with curves and less desired lumps, that make styling myself a bit more challenging. Don’t worry, this isn’t going to be some self deprecating shpeel about how I’m not skinny like a super model so poor me. I’m way over that stage of my life. (A perk of being a 30 something).

I believe there is a bit of a lost market in the fashion world. The skinny gals are well represented and the full figured goddesses are finally being given the spotlight in commercials and fashion spreads. But what about the rest of us? I’m not “skinny”, but I’m not plus size either. I’m right in between. I represent the size 6-14 category of women, and there are a lot of us out there. I always love when magazines come out with their age issues. They show beautiful (usually rich) women in their 20′s, 30′s, 40′s, 50′s, and 60+ styled in a manner that is “age appropriate”. This is fantastic but what if you haven’t had work done on every square inch of your body and, again, are bigger then a size 6? Is that hounds-tooth wool mini skirt still the best option for a professional 50 something mother of three?

While I am an admitted magazine junkie, I choose to see the fashion and leave the rest. If I’m wanting to feel inspired about my shape and how to dress it, I go to fellow bloggers, street style pics, and often turn to my fabulous friends. I feel so privileged to be in the position of being able to share my own personal style and fashion thoughts with my amazing readers. I hope to inspire those who feel the same lack of representation of real women. I know this is not a new conversation but I do believe it’s an important one.
